How does one go about the "explosion" a pinata?

My chuch youth drama group will make a drama of the song "Burn me up "by Shane and Shane. We piñata gold paint and then" blow it up. "However, the drama will be in the church sanctuary and can not be an explosion. Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

If This is a "real" (fire), a blast or explosion compressed air or whatever, will run the risk of debris that could potentially damage someone's ears or eyes. Another blow up a balloon, I have no sense of security.
