paxil birth defects

Since the counselors schedule is so full should I just take the paxil my obgyn prescribed?
My daughter’s pediatrician said it was fine for me to take them and nurse. I have 3 month supply my obgyn wrote while I was pregnant. But warned me if I did take them I could cause her birth defects so I didn’t take them.
I don’t want to wait three weeks for an appointment which also means I have to cancel my trip to Louisiana. Which means I wouldn’t be able to take pictures with my great grandmother whom is in her mid 80s that I haven’t seen in 10 years. I want to at least have a picture of my kids and her before she passes.
I am not self diagnosing and can have several doctors testify that I do have depression.
I have taken it will I was 16 and it makes me happy no side effects.
my strenghth is 10 mg once a day
Have you taken paxil before? If you have, and you know the effects it will have on you, I’d say go for it. If you can take it temporarily and get in to the doc later, it sounds like it would be a good choice.
If you haven’t taken it before, I’d get some herbal supplements or something to tide you over until you can get in to the doc. Paxil is pretty gnarly (this is coming from someone who has worked in the mental health field for 11 years…paxil is not a drug to mess with, and it has some nasty side effects that no one will tell you about…I honestly don’t know how they’re getting away with STILL not telling people this sh**).
ETA: If you have experience with it, and it doesn’t have any side effects for you, then I’d say go for it. Make sure to start taking it now so that you’ll have it in your system for a little while before your trip, just in case if something has changed (as I’m sure you know, your body makes a LOT of changes after having kids, so you never know). Make sure you’ve got phone numbers for local docs in Louisiana, too, just in case.
