The Arts Education Master Plan

September 28 was the beginning of a new era for arts education in schools in San Francisco. Unified San Francisco school district and City are collaborating on a historic effort to restore the arts for all students. The Master of Arts Education Plan will revitalize education of young citizens of San Francisco, by capturing the diverse cultural and artistic energy of a city that is recognized internationally for his love of the arts.

At 10:30 am at the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum, Mayor Gavin Newsom, SFUSD Interim Superintendent Gwen Chan, and SF Arts Chairman Commission PJ Johnston joined members of the SFUSD Board of Supervisors and Board of Education, arts providers across the city and students of Lowell High School, Claire Lilienthal and George Washington Carver Academic Elementary Schools in the celebration of the Arts Education Master Plan.

"This master plan is a living document that exemplifies the partnership between the city and school district arts education, "said Mayor Newsom." efforts of San Francisco unprecedented – and in the coming months, so we witnessed the changes of magnitude in art education children receive, "continued the Mayor.

The Arts Education Master Plan is a model of San Francisco Unified School District to integrate the arts into the daily curriculum of every student. The Plan sets out a sequential, comprehensive arts education program which reflects the high quality of the artistic landscape of San Francisco in the areas of dance, theater, music, visual arts and literary arts.
The guiding principle of this plan is that all students deserve both access and equity in arts education and of each school community, regardless of neighborhood or academic emphasis will be called to embrace the idea that each student should be provided with the arts as an integral part of the school day.

Interim Superintendent Gwen Chan said, "In San Francisco, we are committed to providing each student with a well rounded education. For many years, some students have had opportunities to develop artistic culture. Every school, every student will benefit from this plan .

Community Involvement

The Master Plan reflects the views of more than 1,500 students, parents, teachers, administrators, providers arts, and business and civic leaders. Proposition H approved by the voters of San Francisco in 2004, became the catalyst, making the arts master plan Education, held in August 2006, a funded mandate. The huge increase in education spending in the arts, programming, support and resources recommends that the Plan will be financed largely by funds from Proposition H. Additional funding, such as new state funding for the arts, will be adjusted Master of Arts Education Plan.

The new plan hopes to keep students in school in San Francisco in contact with the vibrant artistic community that surrounds them and help them take advantage of the many enrichment opportunities for art in the classroom and beyond. Schools in San Francisco are ready to implement the program new curriculum at all levels to ensure a consistent and successful learning experience for all students. Students, parents, and teachers in San Francisco schools, they are sure that the master of arts Education Plan will mark his community as a commitment to continuing education arts.
